Volgens Gabe Newell, CEO en co-eigenaar van Valve, is de ontwikkelaar van de razend populaire Half-Life serie meerdere malen benaderd voor een verfilming van deze games. Valve heeft echter elk aanbod wegens verschrikkelijke verhaallijnen afgewezen en besloten geen Half-Life film toe te staan die ze niet zelf maken, zo zegt hij in een interview met PC Gamer. 

Benaderd door Hollywood 
Hij zegt dat ze al sinds de release van de eerste Half-Life een aantal keer door de filmindustrie benaderd zijn.

Directors down there wanted to make a Half-Life movie and stuff, so they’d bring in a writer or some talent agency would bring in writers, and they would pitch us on their story. And their stories were just so bad. I mean, brutally, the worst. Not understanding what made the game a good game, or what made the property an interesting thing for people to be a fan of.
